The Montefiore Life Governors’ Program
Life Governors are benefactors of the Home who have contributed above a certain level over a period of five years. Throughout the Montefiore Home’s history, Life Governors have played an integral and active role in assisting successive Boards of Management to realise their strategic objectives in providing the best possible care and facilities for Sydney’s Jewish aged community, regardless of their financial circumstances.
The Benefits
The Home’s Life Governor program not only recognises the generosity of its benefactors, it also ensures that Life Governors have access to the Home’s Board & Management through regular briefings and are privy to future planning and decision-making. In addition, there are special Life Governors' events such as Annual Shabbatot and Gala Functions.
All Life Governors’ donations are tax deductible and each specific tier may be paid within a five year period.
The different levels of Life Governorship are:
The names of all Life Governors are entered on dedicated honour boards in the Heritage Gallery on the Home’s Hal Goldstein Campus at Hunters Hill and its Randwick Campus.
Why not make your newest grandchild a Junior Life Governor?

Community Service Programs
We run a comprehensive Community Service Program for high school students in Year 10 and above as well as a program for Bar/Batmitzvah students. These students visit the Home and work with our residents over an agreed period and are supervised by our experienced staff at all times. Basic training is given to students as well as an understanding of some issues relating to aged Residents in care.
Students undergoing the Duke of Edinburgh Award are most welcome to complete their service hours at Montefiore. Bar/Batmitzvah-aged children are offered education as part of their Jewish studies and attend the Home accompanied by their Rabbis and teachers.

Become a Bequestor and help the Home continue to care for the Community
Since the Home was founded in 1888, the caring people of our community have helped by making generous bequests to the Home. With the rapid ageing of the Jewish community and the unprecedented increase in the number of cases of dementia, the need today is greater than ever.
Many of our Residents are without family support and are financially disadvantaged— pensioners unable to meet the increasingly high cost of accommodation, facilities and professional care at the level we believe is the right of every elderly member of our Jewish community.
Approximately 30% of our Residents are Holocaust Survivors. Their special needs are met by our skilled, specially-trained and caring staff.
We invite you to become part of the Montefiore Bequest tradition and through your foresight and generosity, pass on the sacred Jewish values of caring for our elderly, as we would hope to be cared for in our own advancing years.
There are many ways that you can make this meaningful contribution: You can:
-
Bequest a specific amount of money
-
Bequest a percentage of your estate
-
Bequest property, shares or insurance policies.
For further information or a copy of our detailed Wills & Bequests Brochure, please call Director of Foundation Roni Faktor in strict confidence on (02) 8345 9110 or email: bequests@montefiorehome.com.au
Name a Room or Area of the Home to honour the memory of a loved one in perpetuity at our campuses in Hunters Hill, Woollahra or Randwick.
Several opportunities exist within the Home to honour a friend or family member. If you would like to find out more about these opportunities, please contact Director of Foundation Roni Faktor on (02) 8345 9110 or email roni@montefiorehome.com.au
Annual Fete
Each year since 1923, on the first Sunday in November, Volunteers of the Home have organised a Fete at the Hunters Hill Campus, to raise funds for its Residents. This continues to be an important part of the communal calendar and every year, it continues to grow in the variety of stalls and quality goods on sale and in the number of supporters it attracts.
At the previous Fete, there were close to 30 stalls, offering a variety of delicious food – a noodle bar, smoked salmon on bagels, latkes and hamburgers – as well as a wide variety of quality product from mens’ and ladies’ clothing, kitchen gadgets and jewellery, to handbags, books and plants.
These stalls are fully staffed by Volunteers, and all goods sold on the day are donated. In fact, in many instances, stalls have been passed down from generation to generation, with grandchildren staffing the stalls that were started by the grandparents or great-grandparents.
The continued success of the Fete is made possible by the donation of goods, sponsorship and the support of a dedicated team of volunteers. Anyone interested in Volunteering at the Fete, or at the Home, should contact the Home’s acting Volunteers Coordinator Rene Ichilcik on (02) 8345 9114 or email volunteers@montefiorehome.com.au. Anyone interested in donating goods for the fete should contact Fete Convenor Roy Cohen on (02) 9904 3893 or email roycohen@optusnet.com.au
Fete Committee Challenge - “Let’s raise $300,000 in 3 years”
The funds will be used to upgrade the Home’s Special Care Unit at the Hunters Hill.
According to Fete Convenor Roy Cohen, “It’s a fantastic challenge for everyone in the community, an opportunity to make a meaningful contribution to the lives of our frail aged with dementia.”
“Reflecting nationwide trends, we have experienced an unprecedented growth in the number of our Residents diagnosed with dementia. Currently, more than half our Residents require extra care as a result of early, middle or late stage dementia. At Montefiore, we have very specialised facilities to address the specific needs of our Residents with dementia, but demand for these facilities continues to increase. The funds raised in this important fund-raising drive, will enormously benefit our growing number of current and future Residents with dementia.” Says Montefiore CEO Robert Orie.

"Montefiore is very privileged to have a number of dedicated Volunteer groups whose aim is to support and raise funds for the Residents of the Home."
